The NEC’s website recently went a complete overhaul, moving to a newer, more modern publishing platform.
New features on this site over the old one include the ability to display video clips; ability to add audio clips; sliding image carousel on the Home page for featured articles; and ad spaces available for sale or to recognize larger donors.

Deb Moore served as the Chair of the BNSI project since 2004. She has been the inspiration and role model for many BNSI students. Deb served as the Director of Nursing for NTI during this time. She will be moving from that role into another educational role with a local hospital. Deb will remain active in helping BNSI students. Thanks Deb for your help and heart!

A primary component of the Bilingual Nursing Scholars Initiative is the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP). SEP is in a three-week intensive summer workshop to enhance students’ language, computer and math skills. They spent a total of 60 instructional hours polishing their skills to increase their likelihood to qualify for nursing school admission. Over 130 students have participated in SEP in the last four years.
June 30 marked the graduation ceremony for the thirty-one Springdale, Har-Ber and Siloam Springs students who attended the Summer Enrichment Program. The students successfully increased their test scores from the pretest to the posttest by an average of 30 points. For their efforts students received a $350 stipend for their attendance. Each student also had the opportunity to enhance his/her skills online. Using these tutorials students can earn incentive money for skills mastery. The average incentive earned by 2009 SEP students was $150.

The fourth Summer Enrichment Program graduating class consisted of thirty-two students from Springdale, Har-Ber and Siloam Springs High Schools.
These students were high performers in the post testing increasing their pretest scores by 25 to 80 points. This represented the first time that all three of the cohorts have worked together in the summer program.

The Fall 2009 Clinical Schedule marks the second year on online collaboration between the three nursing schools and their nineteen clinical partners. The online schedule enables hospital staff and administrators, nurse educators and clinical coordinators instant access to the clinical schedule for their facility. This access enables better coordination of resources to meet the changing population of the healthcare facilities. The development of the online clinical schedule was funded by grants from the Northwest Auxiliary.
