About the Shared Simulation Lab
The Nursing Education Consortium (NEC) has a strategic goal to establish a shared simulation lab to enhance the quality of the nursing education experience by improving nursing decisionmaking, to provide testing situations for applied medical procedures and to enable area healthcare partners to engage in testing and training exercises.
Northwest Technical Institute (NTI) sought State of Arkansas General Improvement Fund (GIF) funding to launch the shared simulation lab. Their efforts garnered the funds to purchase three computer operated mannequins and the furniture/setup to establish a simulation lab with accompanying classroom and practice facilities in the NTI Collegiate Center.
The Simulation Lab is in place and operation with NTI and NWACC nursing students. There is a significant need to provide staffing and equipment management to ensure that it meets community needs and achieves the goal to enhance the quality of the nursing education experience, preparing pre-nursing students and active duty nurses for enhance technology.
NEC is submitting national foundation and federal agency grant proposals to conduct a two-year pilot study of how to enhance practitioner decisionmaking through the use of programmable mannequins.
